Yes, the title pretty much says it all. Click here and see for yourself. Click on the link at the top of the page that reads "Election Assistance Commission." It directs the aspiring voter to an EAC webpage that does not exist
I understand that this may not seem like a big deal. After all, if you just go to EAC.com you can browse around for a few minutes and find the page where the pdf form actually works. Also, the purpose of the FEC is to regulate election campaign finance, rather than promoting and assisting with voter participation.
Nevertheless, this is an insitution whose purpose is to advance free and fair elections. And clearly the powers that be at the FEC have deemed themselves to be sufficiently involved in the electoral process to include a link on their page to help voters register. If they have decided to do that, then they may as well do it right. This has been a dead link for about a week now (perhaps longer).
This is an election where there is intense interest. In light of this you would think that the government would recognize this and make an effort to make voter registration as easy as possible, or at least make certain that their freakin links aren't dead.
So I called the bastids, and asked them politely (didn't call them "bastids") to fix their link - not a big thing. Just asked the receptionist if she would relay to whomever is in charge of the FEC website that the link is down. She was extremely dismissive and I have no confidence that this will get done...
...unless of course we at Kos invade the FEC's phone lines and ask them politely (and repeatedly) to fix the National Voter Registration Form hyperlink. Please call (800) 424-9530.
Just doing our little citizen action part for democracy.
